In the Museo de las Salinas del Carmen you will travel back to 1910, the year in which the largest expansion of the Salinas del Carmen in Fuerteventura was undertaken.First, in the owner’s office, you will learn about the importance of the salt pans in the Canary Islands and then, in an old classroom, you will experience the completely natural functioning of the Salinas del Carmen. You will also see the peculiar tools and implements of the salt workers, and you will even see the master of the house’s bedroom.The museum ends with an impressive projection that invites you to enter the salt pans themselves, which are located outside the museum. There, you will be able to see the entire route along which the seawater circulates, up to the pits where the salt is dried and obtained. It is in these pits where the salt workers will welcome you and, if you dare to try it, you will be able to extract the salt just as it was done more than 200 years ago.
